J. Kelly Hoey - Build Your Dream Network

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

I can’t believe it has been two years since I held the first hard copy of my book, Build Your Dream Network, in my hands. A career filled with adventures (both good and questionable) to get to that day and since then? Oh, my! I could never have dreamed up the conversations and imagined the possibilities.

The #BYDN lesson?

Dream bigger. Or as my friend Kate White would say “what can you do to make your dream better, bigger, bolder and more badass? My plans over the next few weeks are to do exactly what Kate suggests! #BYDN has built a great foundation for me both writing and speaking but, what can I do to make it better, bigger, bolder and more badass….

Betting on yourself is not a risk. I’ve said more than once: YOU are your own best investment. And damn, that advice plays out continually for me. Need more inspiration on this topic of risk? Take 25 minutes and listen up to my interview with Ginny Gilder, author, Olympian, business owner and co-owner of the Seattle Storm. Yes, Ginny is totally badass.

Celebrate. Damn it! We’re always wanting to grab the big prize and in that fixation we forget to celebrate the smaller accomplishments. I can assure you, it is easier to maintain the momentum to reach your ultimate career destination if you celebrate the little steps that get you there – and of course, celebrate the people who help you reach your goals. And yes, in case you’re wondering, I’m still celebrating my first New York Times byline!

ICYMI I’ve been interviewing some incredible entrepreneurs over on the Business Builders Show since Marty Wolff invited me to be his guest host. They are dropping baddass insights to help you advance your passion projects and ventures.

Listen up!

Retail Strategy with Melissa Gonzalez. Before Melissa founded her award-winning firm, The Lion’esque Group, she was working on Wall Street in institutional sales. A desire to do something more creative with her career plus a little good timing, resulted in Melissa stepping off the trading floor and into working with coveted (as well as emerging brands) including Marc Jacobs, Penguin Random House, Brandless, Food52 and more.

TRULY with Tara Hunt. Tara is the founder of Truly, a Toronto-based agency focused on helping clients reach their business and growth goals through insights-driven social strategies. Tara is a digital marketing “native” (that is, she’s been at the forefront of digital since 1992). She’s the author of “The Whuffie Factor” one of the first books on how the social web is changing business (and fun fact, she convinced Zappos’ Tony Hsieh to join Twitter).

500,000 Downloads with Shannah Compton Game. Shannah is a Certified Financial Planer™ on a mission to revolutionize how millennials think, act, and feel about their finances. Shannah’s podcast “Millennial Money” has listeners in 164 countries and over 500K downloads a month. Shannah has always been an entrepreneur at heart! She started her first business, Hometown Cinema, Inc., at 19 while in college at Indiana University.

When not sharing my thoughts in my weekly newsletter or over on the Business Builders Show, I’m sharing insights over on Forbes.com. AND of course, there are all the relevant networking gems providing the foundation for all I write about, in Build Your Dream Network!
