J. Kelly Hoey - Build Your Dream Network

Might the the below book and related insights be of interest for an interview, quotes or other reporting? Byline article format with art available by request …

Oh, my, oh, the volume of spam – bundled as PR – that hits my inbox and this spam really pains me as I know how much money the anxious new-author has likely paid for this “professional” outreach.

So many thoughts ????????????????????, starting with, read:

  1. Harness The Power Of Effective Marketing (Hill & Co)
  2. Pitching The Media? Then Read This! (oldie but goodie on the Build Your Dream blog)
  3. The Unlucky Seven: PR Pitch Fails (And How To Avoid Them) (another classic Kelly bitchfest on this topic on the blog)

All of which is a good segue to this resource for journalists (seeking experts) and women with ideas and expertise others should know about:

Got a POV (point-of-view)? Help change the media conversation and apply to join over 1,300 media experienced women experts on the Women’s Media Center SheSource database. Journalists use WMC SheSource every day to find sources for their stories.

Now, on to ???? from my inbox which I’ve enjoyed delving into:

  • Commcoterie’s Change Communication Roundtable is May 17 (and free!). Learn how to leverage strategic communication so that you can drive organizational change.
  • Worth listening to: entrepreneur, author, speaker and all around magical human, Sherrell Dorsey’s new podcast the “Road to Reinvention”. Real conversations with real insights and takeaways – honestly, I can’t imagine Sherrell putting out a podcast that was anything other than of service to her community. I’m listening and curiously watching what Sherrell creates next.
  • Idea to steal, mimic and/or adopt – annual offsite for one. Companies have offsites. Teams do too. Why shouldn’t a company of one (or solopreneur)? Check out Ian Sanders’ post on Linkedin.
  • “As you build your career . . . you need visibility and to be strategic. That needs networks” (Financial Times)
  • Insider Tip: Perfecting the Post-Interview Thank You (Calibrate Consulting)
  • Navigating The 2023 VC Landscape Interview: Miriam Rivera, Ulu Ventures (Forbes)
  • Considering raising money for your venture? Then read the first-time fundraising series created by pre-seed VC Laconia.
  • Get your brag on, ladies. Overconfidence dictates who gets ‘top jobs’ and research shows men benefit more than women (The Conversation)

We insist the grass was greener back in the day, zeroing in on the good memories, erasing the bad ones, and devaluing the positive aspects of our current lives in the process.

  • How to Stop Romanticizing the Past So You Can Enjoy Your Life Right Now (Self)
  • Forget the smart fridge, smart sensors are the future of surgery. A Knee Replacement That Talks to Your Doctor? It’s Just the Beginning. (WSJ) – and h/t to VC Brenda Irwin (who has been ahead of the investing curve on the pro-active + preventive health tech) for this story landing in my box.
  • Lincoln Center’s Summer for the city returns June 14 (to August 12) – and includes New York City’s largest outdoor dance floor with a—now iconic—10-foot disco ball.

“If I know a certain outing or endeavor is liable to generate additional stress, I question whether it’s worth the expenditure of energy.”

  • Living Abroad Helped Me Cope With My Tourette Syndrome (The Cut)
In other health and wellbeing news, Phoenix plans to recycle wastewater into drinking water by 2030 (Axios)

“To be a healer, you have to be able to listen, to learn, and to love.”

In this episode of On Being with Krista Tippett, Krista speaks with Dr. Vivek Murthy, a renowned physician and research scientist in his second tenure as U.S. Surgeon General.
