J. Kelly Hoey - Build Your Dream Network

RESET.

RESTART.

REFOCUS.

AS MANY TIMES AS YOU NEED TO, JUST DON’T QUIT.

A friend (who is as resilient as f#) received the ALL CAPS message above (then she shared it in her fund update) and well, you know me, I thought you might appreciate the message too, so sending along rather than allowing its impact to wither in my inbox.

Plus it’s a bit of a motivator as 2023 careens towards the new year.

Now, for the good ???? from my inbox:

  • ‘Dun dun dun duuun!’ Why Beethoven’s Fifth sticks in the head and stirs the heart (Aeon)
  • Sued by my abuser for millions, I set up a social network instead‘ (BBC)
  • Is it worth joining a women’s only club? (Her World)
  • Investing with Purpose: SoGal Ventures’ Journey with Pocket Sun (Asia Tech Daily)
  • Courtesy of Cartier Women’s Initiative – a do good holiday shopping guide highlighting some of their fellows who are creating responsible consumer products.

“Canadians look forward to winter activities like skating, snowmobiling, tobogganing and skiing…”

Unless you were born and raised in Victoria, B.C. (like me), where the answer would be…no. so. f’g much. (though I do love a butter tart). Happy Holidays from Around the World 2023 (Diplomatica Global Media) – and while you won’t find Canadian favorites like butter tarts or poutine in the EU Delegation 2023 Holiday Cookbook you will a Finish favorite – licorice ice cream.

Oh ???????? and onward to more good ????

  • Feeling overwhelmed? Studies say try this. (Healthy Housecalls with Angel)
  • Abundance and ideas (Seth’s Blog)
  • The Perils of an Achievement Culture (HBR)
  • Still trying to figure out if angel investing is for you? Applications open for 37 Angels’ angel investing bootcamps in 2024.
  • Applications for startups to apply (without cost) to VentureCrushFG Pods is open!
  • Disengage: Modern life subjects us to all-consuming demands. That’s why we should reflect on what it means to step away from it all (Aeon)

????AND before you leap into the new year with a sales pitch ???????? on the perks/attributes/benefits of your ideas/product/service, read Crafting Your Pitch: A Storytelling Framework by Joanne Tombrakos. Why should you read it? Not simply because I contributed a pro-tip ???? rather, and most importantly Joanne knows more than a thing or two about crafting a successful pitch (fun factual fact: she’s delivered thousands of pitches during a 25-year career in media sales and as a marketing executive at CBS, Time Warner Cable, and NY1 News).

And…with this…as my inbox (and mailbox) is filled with flyers, mailers, catalogs (likely, it looks like yours, which if you’re interested to know why and how to stop some of that ????, take a listen to this episode of The Washington Post’s Post Reports podcast) I’ll save you from more of that rubbish, and will return with good ???? from my inbox in January.
