A little aha! moment recently that I wanted to share with you. It occurred during one of my podcast listening, while out on a walk, moments (walking, in particular, is when I have aha! moments or break through a writing block). The podcast (since it is relevant here) was Smart Rookie (conversations on the power of being a rookie) which got me thinking about why or when I’ve made a career switch or why is it that what I focus on now, keeps me loving what I do…and it dawned on me, having to be right, having to know the answers vs seeking, trying, uncovering understanding, the difference between being anchored in one spot, and being in motion.
The expert vs rookie mindset.
Why did I leave the practice of law? The narrow restrictions of my expertise – no rookie (or any) mistakes allowed! – combined with the numbing treadmill of a can’t ever be wrong professional routine. Why do I seek ways to explain how to connect (aka network) which eschew formulaic guidance and one-size networking templates? To leave room for curiosity in what are, unique moments of human interaction. No two people are the same, so how can any interaction look like another? With this aha! I hope to instill the rookie mindset of learning, discovery and mastery of this critically essential human skill – so you’ll keep trying to make meaningful connections, over and over, again, and again…
With that, here’s what I sifted out of my inbox for you this week:
