One biggest networking waste of time is to waste other peoples’ time, especially when the information is readily available elsewhere. Seeking an informational interview or introduction? Google the person before you make the networking ask. It’s really a no-brainer and it’s being courteous, not creepy. Frankly, not doing that basic bit of pre-networking online research is what is weird.
