Friends, fans, followers – what’s an influencer doing when they have a job and a life offline too? Ian Sanders spills his daily social habits.
Name: Ian Sanders
Title: Creative consultant/ storyteller/ speaker. What fuels me is helping others find their fuel. Helping organisations capture and communicate what makes them tick.
Me: Which social media/networking site is your first site of the day – and why?
Ian: Twitter. I like to see what's happening in my world, any conversations I've missed overnight, what's news, what's up. It's like a one-stop shop for catching up with clients, politics, my neighbourhood.
Me: What types of content are you drawn to or what conversations do you engage in?
Ian: In this uber-long tail where anyone and everyone is a 'thought leader', I'm looking for people and opinions and posts that are different. That stand out, that are genuine and have a real POINT OF VIEW.
Me: What makes social media valuable (or enjoyable) for you?
Ian: It's my community, it's my peer group, it's my network. Being active on Twitter since 2008 has got me speaking gigs, book deals, client projects, a gig in the FT, even a job offer. I LOVE IT!
Me: Could you give up your social networking habit if you had to?
Ian: I could spend less time on it yes. Give it up? Why would I give it up if it gives so much value!!
Me: How frequently do you post on social media?
Ian: Multiple times per day
Me: Do you use any tools / platforms to manage your social media accounts? If so, which ones?
Ian: Yup, tweetdeck.
Me: Who or What are your favorite sources of insight?
Ian: On Twitter? I follow a small list of influencers and business leaders whose opinion I respect.
Me: Who or What are your favorite sources of amusement?
Ian: I don't find much amusement on Twitter, I guess there's more fun and playfulness on Instagram which is why I like it. It feels less grown-up, you can be more playful there...
Me: What do you use to post to social media?
Ian: Laptop, Mobile
Me: When do you use laptop, mobile, or desktop to post to social media?
Ian: MOBILE - all the time, more spontaneous stuff. LAPTOP - some of the time, for more planned/ strategic stuff.
Me: Which other social networking sites are your go-to sites?
Ian: Instagram. It's a great 'soft' way to keep in touch with contacts and friends.
Me: Where can we follow you online?
Ian: @iansanders on Twitter
@iansanders on Instagram
@Iansanders on Medium
