Friends, fans, followers – what’s an influencer doing when they have a job and a life offline too? Gillian Morris, founder of Hitlist spills her daily social habits. Name: Gillian Morris Title: Founder and CEO of Hitlist, the app that alerts you when there are cheap flights to your dream destinations Me: Which social media/networking site is your first site of the day – and why? Gillian: Twitter. It's amazing how accessible people are, still - I've had actual conversations (even if short) with some of the most prominent people in my field. I even met two of my investors through Twitter. Me: What types of content are you drawn to or what conversations do you engage in? Gillian: Travel and international relations are the most important to me, but I'm also fascinated by advances in battery technology. I love trying to connect people with like interests who might not realize that others are working on similar issues. Me: What makes social media valuable (or enjoyable) for you? Gillian: It's the best way to reach people at scale. I appreciate growing a platform where we're able to tell the world about what we're doing and invite others to join the movement. Me: Could you give up your social networking habit if you had to? Gillian: Yes, but it would be a huge blow to my business Me: How frequently do you post on social media? Gillian: Multiple times per day Me: Do you use any tools / platforms to manage your social media accounts? If so, which ones? Gillian: Buffer (bufferapp.com) is indispensable for scheduling tweets at regular intervals to maximize visibility. Me: Who or What are your favorite sources of insight? Gillian: CB Insights - I subscribe to their newsletter and follow @cbinsights and @asanwal, the founder, on Twitter. The Information always astonishes me with the quality of their reporting. People I enjoy following: Marc Andreessen (@pmarca), Startup L Jackson (@startupLJackson), Alyson Shontell (@ajs), Kara Swisher (@karaswisher), Chris Schroeder (@cmschroed). Me: Who or What are your favorite sources of amusement? Gillian: @StartupLJackson + @kll, my cofounder Me: What do you use to post to social media? Gillian: Laptop, Mobile Me: When do you use laptop, mobile, or desktop to post to social media? Gillian: Mobile - everywhere. Laptop - mostly at work. Me: Which other social networking sites are your go-to sites? Gillian: I'm a big fan of Nuzzel (nuzzel.com), which aggregates stories that are being shared by people in your network. It's a great way to see what stories are trending and connect with people over common interests. I also check Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com) a few times a day, usually over meals. It's a good place to deepen contacts in the developer community. And LinkedIn is, well, the most comprehensive way to figure out who you're connected to. But I don't think the UI is as good as it should be. Me: Where can we follow you online?
