J. Kelly Hoey

Name: Lauren A. Koenig Title: CEO & Founder of TWIP Twitter: @twiptrips Dreamers and Doers is a community of over 3,000 high-achieving, entrepreneurial, women which encompasses a diverse mix of female founders of venture-backed companies, women in senior roles at startups, and other female change-makers/influencers. Travel activist, Lauren Koenig is one of those Dreamers and Doers. With TWIP (Travel With Interesting People), Lauren is empowering travelers to discover interesting places, experience global events and find each other based on personal interests (or what she calls “travanality”). Me: Why are you an entrepreneur? Lauren: I recognized from an early age, that I am a very forward thinking human being. I work hard to be present, but the future is where I feel most comfortable. Entrepreneurship is about insight, vision, the ability to push yourself in every possible way and to learn as fast as you can. All while being comfortable in the unknown. I have wholeheartedly accepted this lifestyle, and plan to work at it for the rest of my life. Me: What problem would you like solved? Lauren: We need stricter FDA standards to improve the quality of food that is available for human consumption. The amount of processed, treated and chemical packed foods we eat, blows my mind. Me: Advice you’d wished you’d had or had followed? Lauren: I wish I had taken a foreign language before high school. Currently, I speak fluent French but I wish I would have started sooner and added a few extra languages; Italian, Spanish, German....  If I had a superpower, it would be to speak all the languages on Earth. Me: What does success look like for you? Lauren: Waking up every day doing what I love, being around those I love, to support those I love. Me: Who are your heroes? Lauren: She-Ra. I mean, who doesn't want to be a successful, nurturing, gorgeous woman that can run in heels and carry a sword?  Or The Rock - he has accepted his adversity and bad decisions and works everyday to be a better person than he was the day before. In addition, my heros are anyone that believes this world does not owe them anything and makes an honest living to support themselves and/or their families. Me: What is your best discovery? Lauren: Myself, at 30. Me: What would the title of your biography be? Lauren: "The Most Traveled LAKE" or "TWIP and Shout." Me: What is your biggest regret? Lauren: Not fully accepting myself as a teenager. When you are young and naive, you tend to put weight on aspects of life that truly, do not matter. EMPOWERING our youth is so important - they are the future, yet most, have no clue. The day I fully accepted myself, was the day I knew I could change the world and I've been trying to ever since. Me: Anything else we should know about? Lauren: TWIP - Travel With Interesting People, will be launching in 2016!
