Name: Lauren Foundos
Title: Founder & CEO of FORTË
Dreamers and Doers is a community of over 3,000 high-achieving, entrepreneurial, women which encompasses a diverse mix of female founders of venture-backed companies, women in senior roles at startups, and other female change-makers/influencers. Lauren Foundos is one of those Dreamers and Doers. Her goal? To transform the fitness industry by streaming live and on-demand content from boutique fitness studios to your mobile device.
Me: Why are you an entrepreneur?
Lauren: I always have and forever will run to the beat of my own drum.
I loved my coworkers and career on an institutional government bond trading desk but as I continued to work out at boutique fitness studios the vision for my company was clear; it was apparent that I had to stop everything and start building it.
Me: What problem would you like solved?
Lauren: Most people do not prioritize physical fitness and overall wellness, somehow it falls behind binge watching Netflix for many. In the overwhelming majority of surveys people put work as their first priority, fair enough. Why isn't your health and overall wellness a close second? That is a problem.
A few side effects of working out are; looking amazing, stress relief (feeling great), stronger muscles and bones, a healthier heart, less depression (being happier), higher self-esteem, decreased risk for chronic/debilitating diseases, and a sense of pride and accomplishment.
I excelled in sports growing up because I never viewed working out as a chore. I aspire to make users of FORTË absolutely love staying active by streaming boutique fitness classes with the best trainers from highly coveted studios around the world to their home, palm of their hand or local gym.
Me: Advice you’d wished you’d had or had followed?
Lauren: My parents used to constantly give me advice whether I asked for it or not. Although, I often didn't listen, I have to admit that they were almost always right. With age comes wisdom, I finally understand that now.
Me: What does success look like for you?
Lauren: I achieved what I imaged success to look and feel like. I bought a loft before I was 30, I traveled and indulged in whatever I wanted but that wasn't still it. Success to me now means transforming the fitness industry by making boutique fitness classes and wearable technology ubiquitous through an inherently mobile and interactive platform.
Me: Who are your heroes?
Lauren: My parents, as I grow older I realize more each and every day how lucky I am to have such loving and supportive parents.
Me: What is your best discovery?
Lauren: Best discovery, how amazing and addicting boutique (group) fitness classes are. I used to shy away from these classes. I would go run outside or hit the gym because I was an athlete, and I already knew what to do and was motivated. I began sporadically attending boutique fitness classes with clients or friends and quickly discovered that these structured routines transcend that of a typical workout. The music correlates flawlessly to the exercise and tempo of the class, and the unspoken camaraderie among complete strangers was extremely powerful and from there I was hooked.
Me: What would the title of your biography be?
Lauren: Forever Fit: The FORTË Effect
Me: What is your biggest regret?
Lauren: Regrets, absolutely no time for that. I look at past experiences, whether positive or negative, as an opportunity to make more informed decisions in the future.
Me: Anything else we should know about?
