J. Kelly Hoey

Name: Erica Berger Title: Founder of Catchpool Twitter: @GoodBerger Erica Berger is a NYC and LA based writer, a digital director turned entrepreneur who's active in the journalism, media, tech and social good spaces and founder of Catchpool, a place to share the best content you've discovered on the Internet with the people who inspire you to be your best self. As she says on the Catchpool website: “in a sea of content, why not focus on the best catch?” Erica is also a member of Dreamers // Doers, a highly curated community of high-achieving trailblazing women who come together to support each other on their entrepreneurial paths. The community encompasses a diverse mix of female founders, women working at startups, and other female creators, change-makers, and influencers. Me: Why are you an entrepreneur? Erica: Because I can't stop thinking about what I work on, and nobody else is doing it well enough. Also, I love getting amazing people together to work on important things. And, to be completely real, because I had a hard time working at a bigger company. Me: What problem would you like solved? Erica: It shouldn't feel mutually exclusive to be an informed, engaged citizen AND to live a balanced, manageable, healthy life in the digital age, but it does. I am on a mission to help people figure out on the individual level how to be informed and engaged, but ALSO live a good life. I'm also thinking a lot about aging well, and what that means to start thinking about that BEFORE we're 50.   Me: Advice you’d wished you’d had or had followed? Erica: Trust yourself. Trust the universe. And be more careful who you talk to--sadly, some people aren't there to support you. But, always remember that gratitude unlocks your potential.   Me: What does success look like for you? Erica: Helping people. Helping myself. Feeling like a badass. Empowering others to be badasses. Forwarding culture in a positive way.   Me: Who are your heroes? Erica: Ai Wei Wei. Benjamin Franklin. Ada Lovelace. Aldous Huxley. Allistair Crowley.  Amelia Earhart. Marie Curie. Albert Einstein. David Bowie. David Byrne. Ed Norton. Emma Watson. George Lucas. Ghandi. John Legend. Martin Luther King Jr. Prince. Sylvia Earle. Stuart Brand.  Shonda Rhimes. Anyone involved in the latest climate negotiations. Great journalists (especially the ones at NPR). Anyone who has improved the quality of life here on the planet, while also having stayed present and lovely and kind while doing it.   Me: What is your best discovery? Erica: Me. Yoga. Also, the ocean. And living in the closest thing to a modern day tribe--it keeps me going on a day to day basis.   Me: What would the title of your biography be? Erica: It's not about me, it's about we.   Me: What is your biggest regret? Erica: Not trusting myself. Getting too caught up in other people's perceptions and expectations.   Me: Anything else we should know about? Erica: My company Catchpool is aiming to be the most deliberate, simple, enjoyable place to discover and share quality media on the web with a curious community. We've done it for two years now, and we're all about helping you be as mindful about the media you consume as you are with the food you eat. We're also thinking about how we age better...so we're launching an interesting new blog this summer. Stay tuned! Http://catchpool.com
