Willie Brake is committed to bridging the digital divide — that’s why he founded All About Technology after a 12-year career in Fortune 100 companies. All About Technology is a total solutions provider and value added reseller of IT products and services (plus a Certified Minority Business Enterprise). Willie is an alumni of Build Institute (Build Institute helps entrepreneurs like Willie turn business ideas into reality by providing them with the necessary tools, resources, and support network in Detroit). Willie also contributes to the Detroit community as Executive Director and board member for a local nonprofit and as an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University.

Me: Why are you an entrepreneur?

Willie: To monetize an activity that could be used to help others while being personally rewarding.

Me: What problem would you like solved?

Willie: Economic Justice and Access to Opportunities

Me: Advice you’d wished you’d had or had followed?

Willie: To not pay attention to the swings of the market and to take bigger and bolder calculated risks

Me: What does success look like for you?

Willie: When I am able to replicate what we have in Detroit to communities across the United States to bridge the digital divide and make sustainable technology affordable and accessible for all.

Me: Who are your heroes?

Willie: Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Orman, and Bill Ford.

Me: What is your best discovery?

Willie: The amount of useful life that is still left in electronic waste that is disposed of on a daily basis and how it could impact the lives of others that do not have access to technology.

Me: What would the title of your biography be?

Willie: Bits and Bytes

Me: What makes the Detroit entrepreneurial ecosystem unique?

Willie: There is enough room for everybody to make an impact.

Me: If a Shark Tank investor asked “why should I invest in Detroit?, what’s your answer?

Willie: In addition to making a return on your investment, you will have the opportunity to leave an impact on a great American city!

Me: From meetups to co-working to networking events, what are your top recommendations for someone just stepping into the Detroit startup ecosystem?

Willie: Connect, learn, and network. Build Institute is a great place to start.

Me: Anything else we should know about?

Willie: We are currently pitching to become the first and only Apple Authorized Service Provider in Detroit.
