J. Kelly Hoey

Name: Agnieszka Wilk Title: Co-founder & CEO of Decorilla Twitter: @decorilla Dreamers and Doers is a community of over 3,000 high-achieving, entrepreneurial, women which encompasses a diverse mix of female founders of venture-backed companies, women in senior roles at startups, and other female change-makers/influencers. Agnieszka Wilk is one of those Dreamers and Doers. She has an honors degrees in Business Administration from the University of Windsor. With her analytic skills and love of helping others, she is relentlessly focused on how technology can make interior design more accessible and engaging. Me: Why are you an entrepreneur? Agnieszka: A little voice inside my head always told me to be an entrepreneur, but it wasn’t until I faced some unexpected hurdles in my life that I took the leap of faith and I’m so happy I did! I love being creative and working on problems that are important to me. Me: What problem would you like solved? Agnieszka: I’d love for people to have more time to spend with their family and friends in environments they love. After living in South Korea and seeing a bureaucratic system where employees can’t leave work before their boss and where they are viewed as lazy if they take their vacation days, I think there are so many ways we can improve this across the globe. At Decorilla, we believe that coming home to a place that you love and are comfortable in is important. We're trying to make beautiful interior design more accessible and the whole interior design process more efficient. Me: Advice you’d wished you’d had or had followed? Agnieszka: People break down into two groups, motors and anchors. You always want to surround yourself by people who push you forward, not hold you down. Me: What does success look like for you? Agnieszka: It’s a matter of what makes you happy. For me it's knowing that you are making a difference in people’s lives and spending time with the ones you love. In work I think it’s about being in a place where the values and culture match your own. While being able to live comfortably is important, I think too many people judge success by financial numbers. Me: Who are your heroes? Agnieszka: My grandmother who is 85 years old and has the energy of a 30 year old. She is always kind, positive, and open-minded. She is not afraid to be different than her peers. I also admire Oprah for staying true to her ideals despite many challenges. Me: What is your best discovery? Agnieszka: Nothing in life is easy so you have to work hard to achieve great things. Develop a long term goal/a big goal and work hard to be prepared to achieve it. You may not be ready to take a big leap of faith now, but if you work hard, save money, and surround yourself with incredible people you’ll be ready when opportunity comes knocking. Me: What would the title of your biography be? Agnieszka: The more you give, the more you get. Me: What is your biggest regret? Agnieszka: This is one of the toughest questions because I believe that I would not be where I am without making the mistakes that I have made. Nevertheless, I would not second guess myself as much and I would take compliments better. It’s so easy to internalize negative comments, but we need to internalize the positive ones as well! Me: Anything else we should know about? Agnieszka: We’re working on a new virtual reality app for our clients. They will actually be able to walk through the 3D rooms that their interior designer creates for them!
