How To Bleisure: Mixing Work And Leisure Travel In New York City

Travel trend or simply the hot work reality for a growing generation of freelancers, entrepreneurs, (and yes, employees with side-hacks), frequent travelers are mixing R&R with how they are earning a living. It’s a trend that is increasing a lifestyle choice, not completely a business necessity (according to travel insights site Skift). So whether you are a remote worker or freelancer looking for a change of scenery or simply someone looking for collaborative space and great WiFi (plus opportunity to network like the locals) here are the how to and where insights on networking in New York City.

Name: Liz Jackson, Chief Advocacy Officer, Inclusive Fashion & Design Collective (inclusivecollective.org) Location: New York City

Liz and I met in Dublin this past summer at Inspirefest — and immediately connected. We both love New York City because it is “home” (Liz has lived in the Big Apple for ten years) and while we appreciate all that New York City has to offer, sometimes being “at home” is essential in order to navigate this confident, in-your-face city.

Liz recommends:

· Best power breakfast: Starbucks

· For the business lunch: “Who has time to stop for lunch?”

· The “only locals know this place” to start the day: “Does such a place exist in New York?

· Mid-day meeting place: Skype

· Work options for night-owls: “This may be the city that never sleeps, but I do!

· Favorite neighborhood restaurant: Harlem Shake

· Creative inspiration: Sheep’s Meadow (Central Park)

And the fit-in-like-a-local suggestions:

· Wardrobe essentials: Athleisure

· Co-working space: Starbucks (but get a VPN) then there’s the New York Public Library (Bryant Park, Lincoln Center and newly opened location near the MoMA) or the lobby of the Ace Hotel.

· Place to unplug and recharge: Central Park

· Don’t Miss: “Therapy. There’s no better place to find a shrink than NYC.”
